Again, sorry this isn’t a nails post, but I just took my first crack at photoshop and was mildly proud of the result. Honestly the biggest struggle was cleaning up the background, because the original image is a sketch I did on binder paper (bad decision obviously). I swear I’ll be posting more nails soon!

Hey guys, this isn’t a nails post, but I’ve been seeing a lot of articles on this subject and it’s something I feel strongly about, and I bet a lot of you do too. Most recently, I’ve stumbled upon this article, which showcases various dolls sans makeup, and includes some tidbits from concerned parents:

I think the real issue here is that we live in a society where makeup is nonchalantly referred to as “whore paint” by a woman raising 3 impressionable girls. That sends the message that any woman who wears makeup, whether she wear it to boost her confidence, hide her insecurities, or (*gasp*), just because she likes it, is a lesser person because she chooses to do so. Do I think that Barbie is “the perfect woman”? No. Do I think that all girls should strive to look like her? Of course not. Barbie is most certainly over-sexualized for her target audience. However, this constant shaming of Barbie, a thin, big-chested, makeup-wearing blonde, comes across to children (and all people) as shaming of all women who are thin, big-chested, makeup-wearing blondes. Furthermore, this overwhelming fascination with seeing Barbie “clean faced” is disturbing. It essentially asserts that women who wear makeup aren’t really pretty, they just have their “whore paint” on, and apparently graphic artists and even SCIENTISTS think it is worth the world’s time to knock that bitch Barbie down a peg and show everyone what she really looks like in the morning. This sentiment tells little girls that if they at any point in their lives start to wear makeup, they are “whores”, and tells little boys that they should only prefer the “natural look”. In reality, spending 2 hours on your makeup in the morning doesn’t mean you are promiscuous, insecure, or ugly, just like wearing no makeup doesn’t mean you are homely or lazy. I do understand that in many ways Barbie is not an appropriate toy for young children, but society’s constant judgement of this inanimate object’s clothing, makeup, and body is really just a reflection of our constant judgement of ALL women’s clothing, makeup, and bodies.

if you keep your nails short the best thing to do is get really small nail brushes! urban outfitters was selling a really nice cheap set with some shorter, thinner brushes over the holidays, i would check there to see if they still have it :)

I saw this crazy magnetic nail polish at target, and it greatly intrigued me. Don't know if you've heard of it, but it seems neat. You use a magnet to create designs in patterns in the polish while it's still wet. If you haven't, give it a try and post!

Hi! I just want to say your nails are beautiful! Also, I was wondering: 1. How do you put the rhinestones on, and do they ever fall off/get in the way? and 2. Do you ever feel sad when you remove your nail polish? and 3. How do you make sure your polish doesn't get everywhere? Whenever I do my right hand (I'm a righty), my left hand has spasms and it's a polish explosion haha. Or do you just paint one hand? Thanks, and sorry for the barrage of questions :)

1. since i paint my nails so often, i don’t use any glue, i just press the rhinestones into the polish. it’s easier to take them off that way :)

2. sometimes! if i do a design i’m really proud of it’s kind of a bummer, but they eventually start chipping anyway

3. for REALLY tough designs i only paint my left hand, but it really just takes practice!
